5sGprr. The warmest coldest? welcome Korean ice cream freezer! 🙂 by K As I type this entry, my hair is still damp and I have yet to fix my stuff from my first Korean spa experience. I’ve always been curious about the whole spa thing because of all the Korean films and series I’ve watched. I couldn’t wait to finally wear the headphone-looking towel or as my friend described it, bunny ears! I see Koreans using while eating grilled eggs. 🙂 While the momentum is on, I’m sharing with you how my day went at Lasema Spa through the random photos I got earlier. I’m not sure if there’s an official guide in doing Jjim Jil Bang but I’ll take you through the series of steps I took. First off, you might be wondering, what is Jjim Jil Bang? Lasema Spa’s brochure gives the answer 😉 RANDOM GUIDE At the reception, you’ll be issued a locker key, a uniform set of T-shirt and shorts pink for females and gray for males, and 2 medium-sized towels it might be a good idea to bring your own if you’re used to using big ones. Basic rules posted outside You’ll be asked to take your shoes off before entering the women’s locker area. It’s cool that the key holder is in the form of a wrist watch so you’ll have less chances of losing it. The P700-fine should be enough to make you hold on to your key. The same key holder will serve as your mode of payment when buying food inside. They’ll punch in your purchases to be paid later. The lockers There are wet and dry saunas. I chose to go to the dry saunas first so I changed into the pink shirt and shorts and brought a towel with me to the Jjim Jil Bang Area. Before you reach the saunas, you’ll find a door to an in-house Korean restaurant, a common area, an internet cafe, and a snack bar. Internet Cafe But I didn’t really see anyone using the computers Common area for both men and women. I wanted so much to have my favorite Korean meals but I’m still on the HCG diet. My journey with that one will have a separate entry soon. There are three saunas available with varying temperatures. A kind staff member advised that I start with the one with the lowest temperature so my body will gradually adjust to the heat. Before moving to the next one, she advised that I spend around 5 to 10 minutes of rest time first. I took the rest time to grab a drink it’s NOT allowed to bring your own food inside so you’ll need to purchase from the snack bar. THE THREE SAUNAS Please excuse the resolution as I didn’t want to use flash inside. The signs on the doors state that cellphones, books, and magazines are not allowed inside. But I did see a middle-aged woman tinkering with her tablet inside the sauna room. 🙂 1 OAK & CLAY 2 SALT & CHARCOAL 3 CHUNGITO Again, it is recommended to have a 5 to 10-minute rest period in between sauna sessions. There are sleeping caves right across the sauna rooms. The sleeping caves with mats and pillows You’ll find pillows like this inside the caves and sauna rooms. There’s a light switch inside so I assume this is where you can read during rest time. My favorite part was this — the ICE ROOM! After sessions inside what felt like ovens, I was thrilled to get in what seemed like a fridge. 😉 From 73 degrees to -15, woohoo! Near the ice room are the massage area where you can book your 1-hour massage and a smoking room. I booked my 1-hour massage after cooling down at the ice room. I waited for around 10-15 minutes as advised by the masseuse and then proceeded to the wet sauna area. Wet Sauna Area I didn’t take photos inside out of respect to the ladies who were taking a shower. Just to give an idea, aside from the wet sauna room, there are three pools inside — green tea Hot, ginseng Hot, and cold. The green tea and ginseng pools are 41 to 42 degrees hot. Ladies are advised to take a dip naked with hair tied up. This is also where you’ll take a shower once you’re done. You can choose to bring your own toiletries but there’s a fragrant body wash inside. Before heading out, you can fix yourself at the grooming area. Aside from the basic grooming tools, you can rehydrate and weigh yourself too. 🙂 I must say I’m definitely going back. 🙂 RANDOM NOTES The complete spa and sauna package at Lasema is priced at P890 on weekdays and P990 on weekends. The good thing is, the spa often ties up with deal sites like Ensogo where I got my voucher for around half the price, P495. Your travel to South Korea is not complete without visiting a traditional Korean bathhouse or 찜질방 Korean Jjimjil bang. Jjimjilbang literally means heated room. These are places where Koreans come to relax, hang out and go through a whole lot of cleaning or health rituals you can compare these with western Spa’s. Read this guide to find out what is a Korean sauna and how to enjoy a Jjimjil bang. Make the most of your time in Seoul or Korea! Book your Korean bath house experience online and receive extra foreigner discounts. Check more info here. Jjimjilbangs are traditional Korean bathhouses that are popular among locals and tourists alike. These bathhouses offer a unique experience that combines relaxation, culture, and health benefits. Jjimjilbangs typically feature hot and cold baths, saunas, and various types of massage services. The most distinguishing feature of jjimjilbangs is the use of traditional Korean medicinal herbs and minerals in the baths, which are believed to have healing properties. In addition to the bathhouse facilities, jjimjilbangs also offer a variety of amenities such as restaurants, snack bars, sleeping areas, and entertainment rooms. Visitors can spend hours or even overnight in a jjimjilbang, enjoying the various amenities and services available. Some of the larger jjimjilbangs even have multiple floors and can accommodate hundreds of visitors at a time. Jjimjilbangs are not only a popular place to unwind and relax but also offer various health benefits. The hot and cold baths are believed to improve circulation and promote detoxification. The saunas, which are usually heated with different types of wood, are believed to have different therapeutic effects on the body. For example, the pine wood sauna is believed to help with respiratory problems, while the charcoal sauna is believed to have detoxifying properties. Overall, jjimjilbangs provide a unique and relaxing experience that combines Korean culture, traditional medicine, and modern amenities. A 24 Hour Korean Spa Or Jjimjil bang Each Korean city is filled with these traditional spa, some harder to find that other. In the big cities like Seoul, Busan or Daegu you can find massive spa complexes but if you’re looking for the more traditional unique experience, why not go to a tiny local Jjimjil bang. This is especially great in winter or after a long day of skiing. Korean bath houses are relatively cheap places to take a break during a rainy day or even to spend a night. Entrance fee will vary from 8000 – 12000 won and for most places you are allowed to spend 12 to 24 hours without having to paying extra. First Time Jjimjil bang Experience I remembered my first Jjimjilbang visit as a very confusing and overwhelming experience as there are so many unspoken rules I wasn’t aware of. This article will give a step by step breakdown on the jjimjilbang etiquette and how to enjoy a Jjimjilbang like a pro. 1. Shoe Lockers At the reception desk, after payment, you will receive a jjimjilbang towel and a pajama looking outfit, these outfits have different colors depending on your gender. Next you will continue to the small locker room, these are meant for your shoes, so slip them inside and don’t forget your locker key. Most places have electronic keys, so everything you will spend inside like food, massage,.. will be charged to your key and has to be paid when leaving. For some places the shoe locker room will already be gender segregated. Watch out for the symbols 남 for men and 여 for women. 2. Changing Rooms & Lockers After locking your shoes away you will continue to the changing & locker room which is connected to bath rooms. These are again gender segregated. First you will arrive in a big room with long lockers. The number of you locker will be the same as your shoe locker previously. Completely undress and put all your stuff inside your locker, except towel and toiletries. 3. Showers Rooms When you’re ready, find the door to the bath and shower room. Once inside, you will see many washing stations, plastic stools and bidets. Choose one to take a shower and wash your hair. This is a crucial Korean bath house etiquette before getting in one of the baths. You might feel very uncomfortable being naked around strangers, but keep in mind Koreans come here on a regular basis, so this is very normal for them. Koreans, especially women, really like to give themselves intense scrubs, so if you want to have the ultimate jjimjilbang experience you can buy a scrubbing towel. You can also choose to have this done professionally by an ajumma older Korean woman or ajussi older Korean man, this will cost you approximately 20 000 won. In the bath room you can enjoy a couple of different baths, all of them have different temperatures, try out all of them to find out which one works the best for you. Some Korean bathhouses might even have a couple of steam rooms. When you’re finished get dressed in you jjimjilbang outfit and go to the next room, this is where men and women come together again. You will arrive in a big room with many sleeping mats, here you can relax and take a rest. These places are great as you are allowed to stay for 12 to 24 hours. If you want to save some money while travelling, then this is the best accommodation! Korean Day Spa Sleeping Rooms There will be a couple of 한증막 rooms connected to the resting room, these are stone or clay kilns that have different features. These rooms will have different temperatures ice room, steam room,… or will have different themes wood room, stone room,.. . These rooms are quite pleasant as you will slowly start sweating after 15 to 20 minutes. Most Korean Jjimjilbangs will also sell food or drinks in the changing rooms and resting rooms. Make sure to try sweet sikhye 식혜, this is a traditional fermented cold rice drink. You can also buy sauna steamed eggs, called maekbanseokgyeran 맥반석계란. They have 5 pools working at the time. Cold water, ginseng, lemon, jasmin, wood imperial where it all started in Japan. Max is 4hours for the P550/P500 that I paid for. It’s more expensive by P50 on weekend/ place is clean, staff are nice, the feel is so Japanese/Korean, quiet, you can also do you face masks/hot oil though those who do wash their hair/face it the shower area. I see some people shower for 30mins like they become whiter after their also asked for a tour of the dry sauna which was interesting some are lined with charcoal or stones to energize the body. It's really calming. Please remember to avoid talking too loud so others can relax. We were with two girls who kept on talking nonstop which was really annoying so we decided to move to a different pools will surely relax every muscle in your body. For me, Lasema offers the best massage service I have ever experienced. Their masseuse are polite and well trained leaving you with a well pampered body but not feeling too sore. They could improve their food selection though. It's very limited with ready to cook noodles and pre-heat food but it was ok. Still delicious and not too expensive. I highly recommend this place to everyone who wants to relax. This place is good for everyone, you can visit with your friends, partner or family. You can stay and use their amenities for 12 hrs and we actually enjoyed the sleeping quarters no bed but the lazy boy chairs are comfortable enough but remember to bring your own blanket because the room is kinda note that their customers are mostly Koreans and they do have a different culture so please be respectful of the place and others customers and again PLEASE MAINTAIN of experience October 2019Ask einnAccretia about Lasema Jjim Jil Bang Spa and Sauna1 Thank einnAccretia This review is the subjective opinion of a Tripadvisor member and not of Tripadvisor LLC. I am not a friend of the owner nor I am not staff of this spa. However, for those who are complaining why the towel is small, why they don't inform every level or what, one thing that I want to tell you is, you are pinoy pathetic by the way, I'm filipino too. The spa that you are visited is korean spa and not filipino spa. Naturally, the towel of Korean is small, the place is normal for korean that they can go and use every thing except the staff place. Unlike in filipino many open in one establishment yet can't use everything well. I'm not against to filipino, I just want to show the different culture of Korea. So please before you will complain, know the culture first, or don't ever go there again. I love the steambath too. The hot wet sauna area is well maintained since it has opened last year. Their dry sauna area is one of its kind too. Love the igloo like reference With temperatures ranging from 52-80 degreees celsius, u’ll definitely sweat!! And they have ice room too which is so cool.
